As April starts to roll in that means track season is starting at Ozark Junior High. Ozark had two dual meets, both were held at Ozark High School. Dual meets are designed to let the athletes try any event of interest, but the athletes do not get any medals when competing in a dual meet. Runners do get timed by their coaches, then those times are recorded, and that is how the athletes are chosen for specific events for qualifying meets.

All athletes were required to make 14 practices before their first track meet and this included coming to a practice during spring break. If they did not meet this requirement then they would have to come to the first dual meet and help out, but could not participate.

Eighth grade student, Karly Kolstad says, “You can participate in four events including field events.”

As athletes prepare for track meets they are also preparing for COC which is four weeks away. During practice, athletes first warm-up then they condition for about 40 minutes after they go to their field events for an hour.

Both seventh and eighth grade practice together on the OJH track. They also compete together throughout the season.
