Ozark Junior High’s National Junior Honor Society has been accepting new member applications. They accept new members in the second quarter of every school year.

The cutoff date for this year was October 24, but interested students that missed the deadline can still apply next year.

Membership meetings are on the 2nd and 4th Thursday of every month on the learning stairs. Currently the club consists of returning members only, but at the beginning of November they are opening up to taking in new members.

To be eligible, students need a 3.8 GPA or higher. Students are also scored on leadership, service, and character.

“Members are scored based on their activities, leadership, awards earned, and volunteer opportunities,” NJHS sponsor Mrs. Ash says. They also need three teacher recommendations.

They choose new members after the first term so that student have a chance to stabilize their grades. It gives students a higher chance of being chosen.

“Your main focus is service, especially helping kids and our members love giving back,” adds Mrs. Ash.

This year’s plans involve helping the Forest of Fun at the OC, making pillow cases for children at Cox, and delivering treats for Easter to kids in the hospital during Easter weekend.
