As November is beginning so is the Science Periodic Table project in Mrs. Little’s class. This project is where students learn how to relate real life to the periodic table.

Mrs. Little is an enthusiastic ninth grade science teacher who enjoys watching her students doing this project. “I have a passion for seeing students excited about learning about the things around them.”

Paige Chrastina is a ninth grade student who is in Mrs. Little’s honors science class. “I enjoy the projects in science because they allow us to be creative but at the same time allow us to learn.”

When asked about the importance of learning science and the periodic table she said, “Science is everything we do every day, I want my students to realize that and want to learn more about it. The periodic table is not just a group of elements randomly placed but there are trends that I want students to be aware of.”

Mrs. Little adds, “The periodic table project helps students realize it is not an easy process to put things in an order that make them related to each other. The students are using a lot of critical thinking and creativity to complete their own version of a periodic table.”

Chrastina agreed that the project was not easy. “Our project was Disney character’s, and the hardest part of it was just trying to organize the characters. Because their are so many favorite characters and lots of attributes to them. We organized ours by the color and what year the movie was released that the character plays a role in.”

“From this project,” Chrastina begins, “I learned that the periodic table has lots of parts and components to it.”

Mrs. Little explains, “I’ve seen many different types of posters and it shows all of the students different personalities. Some examples are Disney characters, cards, Harry Potter, football, Starbucks, cakes, fruits, tables, and music.”

Mrs. Little smiles sharing, “I’ve always loved science growing up, and it’s exciting to see students engage and light up while they’re learning.”

The Periodic Table projects took around three days to complete. “I loved getting to make my poster look creative and show my personality while getting to learn at the same time!” Chrastina shared.
