On November 27, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle announced their engagement on Twitter. The wedding is set for May 2018 at St. George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle.

Markle and the prince began dating in early July of 2016. They were set up by a mutual friend whose identity has not been announced due to privacy. Markle said when the friend introduced them, “The only thing that I asked was is he nice? Cause if he wasn’t kind, it just didn’t seem like it would make sense.” At first, they went on a blind date, but later Harry took Markle to Botswana, Africa.

This announcement has brought a lot of attention to the royal family. The Queen of England and her husband, The Duke of Edinburgh said, “The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh are delighted for the couple and wish them every happiness.”

Prince Harry’s father, Prince Charles said after the news, “I hope they’ll be very happy, indeed, is all I can say. It’s marvelous.”

While both of these comments were sentimental and serious, Harry’s brother, Prince William announced humorously that he hopes this engagement means that Harry, “will stop scrounging my food.”

Similar to the engagement of Prince William and Kate Middleton, the couple had an interview after the announcement was made. The media quickly noticed and pointed out the differences between the two interviews.

In Harry and Meghan’s interview, they had more body language. They were touching almost the whole time unlike William and Kate who stayed more formal and talked to the interviewer the whole time. Also, the prince and Markle recently said that they would like to have a banana cake at their wedding because it has sentimental value to them. This is the first time a royal wedding will have an nontraditional cake.
