U.S. Navy Seal Killed in Yemen

On Sunday in Yemen, two Americans were killed. One was decorated 36 year old Navy SEAL, William “Ryan” Owens. The other was an 8 year old girl, who was the daughter of Anwar al-Awlaki.

Owens enlisted in the military in 1998 and worked his way up through the ranks and became a chief special warfare operator on SEAL Team Six. SEAL team Six was the same unit that had killed Osama bin Laden in 2011.

He suffered from wounds and died during a raid against Al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula in Yemen on Sunday.

Owens died a chief special warfare operator with three Bronze Stars.

Owens was the first U.S. service member to die in the line of duty during President Donald Trump’s presidency.

“My deepest thoughts and humblest prayers are with the family of this fallen service member,” says President Trump after this tragic event in Yemen.

The mission that Owens was on was lead by the super secret Joint Special Operations Command and was meant to capture valuable intel, more specifically, computer equipment.

The raid also had another secret purpose according to NBC news, “Military and intelligence officials told NBC News the goal of the massive operation was to capture or kill Qassim al-Rimi, considered the third most dangerous terrorist in the world and a master recruiter.”

Owens died as an honorable, ranking officer.
