The track season at Ozark Junior High is starting up soon. The first practice will be on Monday, February 27, after school with practices continuing through April. Coaches this year are Coach Smith and Coach Disseler.

This is Elijah Cook’s second year running on the track team. Like other OJH runners, he joined so he could get better at cross country. Cook competes in the mile, the 800 meter run, and high jump. He says he will practice hard and will have fun, too. He also believes he will continue to participate in track through high school.

Cook says, “This season is going to be the best one yet.”

Last year, Ozark dominated in the COC, so the coaches expect a lot from the team this year. According to Coach Disseler, Ozark Junior High usually wins meets so the expectations are always high.

This is Coach Disseler’s third year coaching track. She says she also competed in track starting her freshman year in Tennessee.

“My favorite part of coaching track is watching the runners and jumpers break personal records,” explains Disseler.

The track meets are mostly in April. At the moment, the schedule isn’t completely set yet; however, they know they will be competing in three away and two home meets.

Elijah Cook, a returning track team member, says he hopes for this to be a great season. Cook says, “The best part about track is how the coaches push you to get better.”
